Sugar Cookies

Chef Adam Kovac, the executive chef for Bread Winners, Henry's Majestic and The Quarter Bar, stops by Good Day to make sugar cookies that are perfect for a holiday dessert or gift.


Bread Winners Sugar Cookies

1 Cup of Butter
8 oz sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3 cups of flour
1/4 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp baking powder

Cream together the butter and sugar in a mixer until light. Add the egg and vanilla and mix well. Add the dry ingredients to the mixture and mix/ Chill Dough for at least 2 hours, over night for best results.

Roll dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out with cookie cutters of your choice. Place cut outs on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake at 300 degrees in a convection oven or 325 degrees in a standard oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Turn them halfway through baking. Edges should begin to brown when ready.


Icing

1 lb of 10X confectioners sugar
2 TBL meringue powder
5 TBL water

Whisk confectioners sugar and meringue powder in a large bowl. Add water and beat with a mixer on medium-high speed until soft glossy peaks form, adding up to 1 more tablespoon of water if necessary. Cover the bowl with a damp paper towel and plastic wrap until ready to use to prevent the icing from drying out. (Makes about 2 1/4 cups.)
