MADD: Today is a 'National Day of Rememberance'

DALLAS - Mothers against Drunk Driving calls Thursday the National Day of Remembrance.

The day honors those who have been killed or injured in drunken or drugged driving crashes, or as a result of underage drinking.

Events will take place in cities across the country. MADD said it’s a way for communities to come together and offer support and comfort.

On Good Day, Arlington police officer Stacie Brown talked about being personally affected by drunken driving. Her sister was that driver and lost her life.

She said it’s the reason she’s now a police officer.

“I take pride in being able to find that drunk driver before they get into that crash because that’s not something I could of done for my sister. So that’s my goal every night,” she said.

Last year almost 10,000 people were killed in the United States as a result of drinking and driving.
