Lone Star Park opens for its 20th season

- There's excitement in Grand Prairie as Lone Star Park opens for its 20th season.

More than 1,000 thoroughbreds have been brought in for 50 days and nights of competition between now and mid-July.

Thursday morning many of them were getting in a workout, circling the one-mile track. One of the trainers talked to FOX 4’s Dan Godwin about the horses and the races.

Danelle Durham said jockeys may race several times a day, but the horses usually go three weeks between competitions. She also said there are many things you can teach a horse, but some traits they are just born with.

The spring racing season also includes the Lone Star Music Series. The first concert kicks off this weekend after racing with the Randy Rogers Band and Dwight Yoakum.
