Volunteers are busy collecting Toys for Tots and getting them ready for delivery.
Once the white donation boxes are full, they’re delivered to a warehouse in Carrollton. There volunteers and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve sort them by gender and age groups. Then the toys are sent to local non-profit groups for distribution.
Last year the Marines donated 200,000 toys to children in North Texas.
“It gives you that warm cuddly feeling. Wow. When you see their eyes open up and they’re like, ‘This is for me?’ It hits home a little bit. It’s nice to see the impact you made on their lives this time of year,” said Lance Cpl. Shmuel Tarnor.
The Marines say right now they are most in need of toys for girls and boys ages nine to 12. Cash donations are also welcome and the Marines will purchase toys to fill those gaps.
FOX 4 is a proud sponsor of Toys for Tots. Tonight we’ll be out collecting donations at the Mansfield Center for the Performing Arts. Tomorrow we'll be in Allen and Friday in Frisco.
