Scott Weiland found dead on tour bus in Bloomington, Minn.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KMSP) - Scott Weiland, former lead singer of the bands the Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, was found dead Thursday night on his tour bus in Bloomington, Minnesota outside of a hotel near the Mall of America. Police recovered a small amount of cocaine from the room of the tour bus where Weiland was found, and arrested band mate Thomas Black for drug possession.

Weiland, 48, was in Minnesota on tour with his new band, the Wildabouts, who were scheduled to play Friday night in Rochester, Minn. The band had a previously scheduled show at the Medina Ballroom on Thursday night, but it was canceled due to a lack of ticket sales.

The Hennepin County medical examiner is still waiting for toxicology results to determine the official cause of death, but the initial call was for cardiac arrest. A report from the Hennepin County medical examiner listed the time of death as 8:27 p.m. and the location as the Country Inn & Suites at 2221 Killebrew Drive in Bloomington. No other details were released.

Black, 47, of Studio City, Calif., was placed under arrest for 5th degree possession of a controlled substance and was being held at Bloomington Police Department.
