H-E-B to purchase six North Texas grocery store sites

H-E-B has purchased six North Texas grocery store locations, fueling hopes that the San Antonio-based grocer could finally enter the area market with its namesake store.

But H-E-B officials say that for now the Central Market brand would continue to be the “primary format for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.”

H-E-B announced on Monday it was buying six Sun Fresh locations that are set to close – four in Dallas and one each in Grapevine and McKinney. The real estate transactions are set to close in the coming weeks.

H-E-B said it was “evaluating the feasibility of each property acquired” and didn’t say when or if each of the six locations would re-open under H-E-B management. The four Dallas stores had been operating as Sun Fresh Markets for only a year and previously were Albertson’s stores.

The six store locations purchased by H-E-B are:

• Dallas, TX - McKinney Avenue and Lemmon Avenue
• Dallas, TX - Northwest Highway and Midway Road
• Dallas, TX - Northwest Highway and Ferndale Road
• Dallas, TX - Mockingbird Lane and Abrams Road
• McKinney, TX - Hardin Boulevard and El Dorado Parkway
• Grapevine, TX - State Highway 121 and Hall Johnson Road

H-E-B presently operates five Central Market locations in North Texas: two in Dallas and one each in Plano, Southlake and Fort Worth. H-E-B locations are on the edge of North Texas in Burleson, Cleburne, Corsicana, Ennis and Waxahachie.
