Texas Knocks off Texas Tech in Big 12 Tourney

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Cameron Ridley had 14 points and eight rebounds, Kendal Yancy added 13 points and seventh-seeded Texas helped its NCAA tournament hopes with a 65-53 victory over Texas Tech on Wednesday night in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament.
Isaiah Taylor added 12 points and seven assists for the Longhorns (20-12), who can probably slide off the bubble and safely into the 68-team field with a win over No. 2 Iowa State in the quarterfinals Thursday. The Cyclones beat Texas twice this season.
Another victory would also help coach Rick Barnes, whose job has been under intense scrutiny after Texas -- at one time ranked in the top 10 -- struggled so mightily this season.
Toddrick Gotcher scored 12 points to lead No. 10 seed Texas Tech (13-19), which was outrebounded 39-24 and struggled to deal with the Longhorns' superior size in the post.
