Health of 2 prisoners involved in fatal bus wreck improves

ODESSA, Texas (AP) - The health of two inmates involved in a deadly bus crash has improved.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark said Sunday that Hector Rivera has been upgraded to serious condition and Damien Rodriguez has been upgraded to fair condition at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. They are among the five survivors of Wednesday's wreck.

Two guards and eight inmates were killed when a prison bus slid off an icy interstate and hit a moving freight train.

A guard and four inmates survived the crash in Penwell, west of Odessa.

Clark says corrections officer Jason Self remained in critical condition at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

At the Odessa hospital, Terry Johnson remained in critical condition and Remigio Pineda was listed in fair condition.
