SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The Canyon Eagles may need a new trophy case soon.
Sophomore guard Angel Hayden's 16 points and nine rebounds led the Eagles to a 48-41 win over Dallas Bryan Adams and the Class 5A girls' basketball title Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The tournament MVP also grabbed nine rebounds as Canyon (34-3) won its 17th girls' basketball title overall, second in a row and ninth since 2000.
Canyon won its 17th title overall, second in a row and ninth since 2000 in making its state-record 25th state tournament appearance. The Eagles are 41-8 in those tournaments and have won 18 consecutive tournament games.
Alexus Gilbert led Adams with 12 points.
Canyon led 23-15 at the half, and Bryan Adams (30-5) was unable to get close that gap.
