ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has been activated from the disabled list after missing 19 games because of a sprained left thumb.
Texas announced the somewhat surprising move less than 90 minutes before the start of its game Tuesday against Oakland.
Beltre had said as recently as Sunday that it was still painful to swing a bat and he didn't know when he would be playing. Texas inserted him into its starting lineup, batting fourth and playing third base.
General manager Jon Daniels says Beltre still feels a little sting when he swings, but that feeling quickly goes away and there are no lingering effect.
Beltre jammed his thumb sliding into a base on May 31.
