ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Shin-Soo Choo celebrated with his teammates after his 11th-inning walk-off single on Thursday night.
After the burst of enthusiasm for the Texas Rangers' 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox, Choo downplayed his role.
"We used the bullpen, both teams. That's really more than one game, and I think everybody did a good job tonight."
Choo's single to left field ball beat Chicago's defensive shift, passing to shortstop Alexei Ramirez's right as he tried to scramble back from his temporary position near second base.
Leonys Martin scored the winning run. He led off the inning with his third single and moved to second on Hanser Alberto's sacrifice.
Dan Jennings (1-2) was the losing pitcher. The win went to Tanner Scheppers (2-0).
The Rangers won their fifth consecutive series and moved to three games above .500 (29-26) for the first time this season. Despite completing a 5-2 homestand, they still have just an 11-15 record at home.
Manager Jeff Banister was pleased with the result of the homestand, but not with his team's play on Thursday.
"This was the toughest," he said. "We can't have four errors. We left 14 runners on base. We've got to get some timely hits and drive in runs."
Choo said, "Everybody has ups and down, players and teams. (Josh) Hamilton and (Adrian) Beltre have injuries. Somebody's coming up, from the minor leagues and outside the organization, and helping us this year. That's different than last year."
The players coming up include rookies Alberto, Joey Gallo and Delino DeShields, and veteran right-hander Yovani Gallardo. He gave up three hits, two walks and an unearned run in six innings.
"Gallardo grinded through," Banister said. "He found a two-seamer that he was able to use to get through."
Gallo didn't hit a home run after blasting one in each of his first two major league games. He had a single and an intentional walk in four at-bats, and struck out twice.
DeShields and Price Fielder had two hits apiece for the Rangers. Adam Eaton singled twice for the White Sox.
DeShields led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, and scored on Fielder's ground single to center field.
In the fourth, Chicago's Avisail Garcia reached base on Gallo's throwing error, went to third on Ramirez's single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gordon Beckham.
White Sox rookie Carlos Rodon struck out a career-high 10 batters in six innings. He allowed one run, five hits and three walks.
Gallo's fourth-inning throwing error was on the first ground ball hit to him in two major league games in the field. He settled down to throw out two runners on grounders in the extra innings.
In addition to the Rangers' 14 runners left on base, the White Sox stranded 10. Texas had multiple runners on base in the eighth and 10th innings, but Chicago turned double plays to end both threats.
White Sox: In contrast to Texas with 13 players on the disabled list, Chicago has only two. RHP Matt Albers (fractured finger) has been on the DL since April. So has RHP Nate Jones (elbow ligament replacement surgery) -- since April of 2014. It's unlikely that either would return this month.
Rangers: LF Josh Hamilton (strained left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list, and LHP Ross Detwiler (inflamed shoulder) came off the DL. . LHP Derek Holland (strained shoulder) is scheduled for an MRI exam on Friday, and could begin throwing off a mound this weekend. . OF Ryan Rua (fractured right heel) began an injury-rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock at Reno on Thursday.
White Sox: Returning home for a three-game series against Detroit, Chicago will start LHP Jose Quintana (2-6, 4.33) on Friday. He is 1-5 in his last seven starts, despite a 2.98 ERA in 45 1/3 innings.
Rangers: RHP Alex "Chi Chi" Gonzalez (1-0, 0.00) will make his second major league start on Friday in the opener of a three-game series in Kansas City. The most recent Ranger to win his first two career starts was Kevin Brown in 1986 and '88.
