Austin assistant principal charged in bus driver sex case

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The former assistant principal of an Austin school accused of failing to report child sex abuse for months has turned himself in to authorities.

Local media outlets report Juan Zea was charged Friday with failing to report two incidents in which he allegedly observed 61-year-old bus driver Leon Young inappropriate touching a 6-year-old girl. He turned himself in Monday at the Travis County Jail.

Officials say the assistant principal at Walnut Creek Elementary School saw Young touching the girl on the shoulders and back in January and March and told him to stop.

The investigation started when some students reported seeing more incidents. The assistant principal then spoke with police.

Young was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Zea has resigned. It is not immediately clear if Zea has an attorney.
