Red Oak woman gets life in prison for 2012 murder of husband

WAXAHACHIE, Texas (AP) - An Ellis County jury has sentenced a Red Oak woman to life in prison for the 2012 murder of her husband.

Prosecutors say 39-year-old Amy Reese fatally shot 36-year-old Marlin Wade Reese in the head while he slept in their bed in October 2012. Amy Reese was accused of trying to dispose evidence of the crime with the help of her 12-year-old daughter.

Reese said she was defending her daughter, claiming her husband had abused the girl. But prosecutors said her claims were baseless and that she was known to accuse men she was in a romantic relationship with when she was getting ready to leave them.

She pleaded guilty last week to murder and will be eligible for parole 30 years into her life sentence.
