El Paso officer escorting funeral procession killed in wreck

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - El Paso police say an officer working off-duty as an escort for a funeral procession was killed in a collision with a vehicle that disregarded another officer who was blocking traffic.

Police say Officer Adrian Arellano died in the Wednesday afternoon crash. He was riding an escort motorcycle at the time of the accident and had his lights and sirens activated.

Police say the driver of a sedan disregarded an officer blocking traffic and Arellano hit the driver's side of that sedan.

Police say any decision regarding charges will be made when the investigation is finished and after consulting with the district attorney's office.

Arellano had been with the police department for 10 years.
