SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Caleb Smith scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Bridgeport built a big early lead then held of late rally to beat Dallas Madison 68-60 Friday in a Class 4A boys' state semifinal.
Smith scored 16 points as Bridgeport jumped out to a 34-20 lead after two quarters.
Devonte Patterson added 27 points for Bridgeport (34-4). Admon Gilder led Madison (25-8) with 27 points and 12 rebounds, including a 3-pointer that cut Bridgeport's lead to 58-54 with just under 3 minutes to play.
Bridgeport made seven free throws in the final 45 seconds to put the game away. Madison had won the previous two state titles in Class 3A but had to forfeit both for using an ineligible player.
