Sunnyvale beats Shallowater to take girls' 3A crown

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Four different players scored double digits to lead Sunnyvale past Shallowater 52-37 in the Class 3A girls' basketball championship final Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Championship game MVP Grace Goodhart led the victorious Raiders with 13 points, while Karah Sicurella added 12 points and Leslie Berry and Ivy Alexander finished with 10 points each. The Raiders out-rebounded the taller Fillies 25-22. Bria Johnson led with five rebounds and seven assists.

Ahead 23-17 at the half, Sunnyvale (37-2) opened the third quarter with an 11-3 run that opened a double digit lead Shallowater couldn't overcome. Sunnyvale stretched the lead to 17 points to open the fourth quarter.

Kelee Smith led Shallowater (32-2) with 14 points and six rebounds, while Hannah Almsted added six points and six boards.
